
CAPE TOWN, 2 September 2025 — The Rescue Sport Series today announced the launch of Season 2 at Clifton Surf Lifesaving Club, reaffirming its mission to recruit 200 new lifeguards by 2027 and deliver 10,000+ volunteer water‑safety hours across Western Cape beaches and pools. Season 1 proved the appetite for lifesaving sport; Season 2 focuses on scaling the impact — bigger, stronger, and more connected. Our Mission & impact
The Series exists to build a pathway where sport and service meet—developing athletes, growing officials and strengthening clubs so that more trained lifeguards patrol Western Cape beaches and pools.
What’s new in Season 2
- Expanded investment: Solid Oak Insurance has increased its three‑year commitment from R1.5 million to R2.3 million.
- R252,800 prize pool: Season‑long incentives across surf and pool. (Visit our How it Works page for info on Points & Prize Money)
- Bigger pool programme: Growth from three to four pool competitions.
- Innovation carried through winter: The Pool Sprint Series introduced never‑before‑raced local events and opportunities to set RSA Records.
- Rivalry renewed: Battle of the Bay returns on 11 October at False Bay Lifesaving Club, Muizenberg, including athlete‑requested additions such as the Surf Dash.
- Digital hub live today: RescueSportSeries.com becomes the central home for results, schedules, race videos and news.
- The Rescue Sport Series Creator Competition was announced, with a R6000 prize pool to promote media creation amongst athletes using footage from Season 1.
Season 2 Goals
Increase participation across surf and pool, encouraging athlete crossover.
Grow the volunteer community by developing and recognising officials, with pathways to national and international events.
Double the digital footprint to bring lifesaving sport to broader audiences.
