The Rescue Sport Series is proud to announce that, from January 2026, Oceanwoman and Oceanman (Iron) racing will officially become part of the Series programme.
This decision recognises the rapid growth and competitive importance of Iron racing, both locally and internationally. While historically limited to Western Cape Champs, the event has gained global prominence — featuring at World Championships and positioned for potential inclusion in the 2032 Olympic Games. Bringing it into the Rescue Sport Series will give Western Cape athletes more opportunities to race, develop, and compete in this demanding multisport discipline throughout the season.
Adding to the excitement, Solid Oak Insurance has committed a brand-new R100 000 sponsorship exclusively for the Oceanwoman and Oceanman Series. This investment enables a structured competition pathway, improved race delivery, and the opportunity to grow the discipline’s profile — with the long-term goal of attracting more sponsors, more athletes, and more prestige.
The Oceanwoman and Oceanman event will run one hour before the main Rescue Sport Series programme at each competition, featuring its own divisions, leaderboards, titles, and prize categories. Athletes across all clubs can now integrate Iron racing into their season, making it a standout feature on the Western Cape calendar.
Oceanwoman & Oceanman Competition Structure
Champions will be crowned based on an athlete’s best performance across three events, using combined placings to determine final standings. Prize money and titles will be awarded for Open and U19 divisions, while U17 and U15 athletes will compete for age-group titles. All awards will be presented at the Rescue Sport Series Awards – May 2026.
Additional Race Information
- 20-minute time cap per race
- Beach Arena: Loop course using the traditional Ocean M beach model; finish line positioned centrally at the top of the arena
- Water Arena: Traditional Iron-style layout (not M-shape), aligned with the Ocean Relay model
- All dry starts (no seconds permitted to hold craft)
- Order of legs: Swim → Board → Ski, with run transitions
- No heats — straight finals

To maintain a balanced programme and work within time constraints, Milnerton and Fish Hoek will host two combined Iron races, grouping athletes by eligibility.
Western Cape Champs will host age division races with double points on offer. Please read carefully to understand where you race and how you score.

Open Athletes

U19 Athletes
- Must choose whether they want to score points in Open or U19 Iron (Milnerton/Fish Hoek)
- Will score on only one leaderboard U19 or Open
- At WC Champs: may race U19 and/or Open (two separate races)
- Eligible to win Cash Prizes in both the Open and U19 category depending on which one they choose
U17 LA Athletes
- May race Open (Open leaderboard) or Youth (U17 leaderboard)
- Must race Youth Iron to score U17 points for u17 Title
- At WC Champs: race U17; optional Open
- Eligible to win Cash Prizes in the Open Category
U17 JLA Athletes
- Race only in Youth Iron
- Score U17 leaderboard points
- At WC Champs: race U17 only
U15 Athletes
